Principles of Freedom

“Written to explain to ‘a candid World’ why the American people had taken the extraordinary step of declaring independence from Great Britain and of forming a new nation, the Declaration’s universal message of equality spoke not only to the founding fathers’ generation but also to future generations and peoples around the world struggling to throw off oppression.”*

This web site follows the various stages of authoring, signing, protecting, and publishing the Declaration of Independence. A “document-viewer” feature, built in Flash, allows users to scale and pan original documents. The site was developed using standards-friendly XHTML/CSS and uses a simple ColdFusion template system for maintenance and consistency.
